– Stop Biting Your Nails Do you bite your nails? Do you want to stop? Call me today! From a client who had been biting her nails for years: Rosa, Just a very sincere, heartfelt Thank You for all you succeeded in helping me with 3 weeks ago. My nails are unbelievable … but nothing is more so than the fact I feel no desire to ‘bite’. I cannot thank you enough, may all your good come back to you. Sincerely, JG St. Albert, Alta. Childbirth with Hypnosis Would you like to experience comfortable contractions during childbirth? Because of the stories we’ve heard from some of the mother’s in our lives a large percentage of women, in our western culture, believe that giving birth is a stressful and painful experience. ‘Put me out, and wake me when it’s over,’ is not an uncommon request. Pain during childbirth is usually caused from feelings associated with fear, anxiety or stress. When we are tense or afraid our muscles tighten up. When our uterus muscles are tense and tight it becomes painful to give birth. When our uterus muscles are relaxed, giving birth becomes a more comfortable experience. A woman’s body is beautifully created to conceive and give birth easily and comfortably. With the use of self-hypnosis, you’ll learn how to connect with your natural knowing of giving birth. You’ll learn deep relaxation techniques that will facilitate the birth of your child. You’ll use your mind and your breath to control your body and deliver your baby with comfortable contractions. FEAR OR NOT TO FEAR
TO FEAR OR NOT TO FEAR Have you ever been afraid? Afraid of the dark, of heights, of flying, of snakes, afraid of new people, bugs, large spaces, small spaces and I could go on and on. There is so much we could be afraid of, just choose something, anything. What is fear? When is it reasonable to be afraid? Possibly, when life is being threatened, I don’t know, do you? I do know that thinking and focusing on fear only magnifies it. The challenge is to use fear to empower us. Remember that to simply do what we are most afraid of doing, sets us free. Fear is defined as excessive anxiety – as a distressing emotion aroused by impending pain or danger. False Emotions Assumed Real Fear is a false emotion that distorts our perception and confuses us as to what is real. As I reflect back on my life, searching for a memory of extreme fear, one moment in time stands out more than any other. It happened just over 10 years ago, skydiving. Ever since I was a child I’d dreamed of skydiving. The freedom one must feel when flying through the air. The peace one must feel floating with the clouds. How beautiful the world must look from way up there! The day finally came, and I was incredibly happy. I was looking forward to the freedom that I would feel floating in the air like a cloud. How joyful it must be to have no limits. So, three of my friends and I set out for a parachuting club in Radway, Alta. This particular club had a good reputation for training new jumpers. So even though we had never jumped we knew that this experience was for us. We were young, adventurous, free-spirited, daring, courageous and willing to do anything. So we signed a waiver, and the fun began. The class exercises were incredibly easy. We learned that we were to jump a mere 3000 feet and open the parachute by pulling the ripcord at 1000 feet – with directions coming from a 2-way radio as to when we had reached 1000 feet. – NO problem, for such brave adventurers. We learned how parachutes are folded. We learned about the strength of the shroud lines. We mastered how to put on a harness with its many buckles and straps. We put on our thick coveralls, goggles and helmets. All of this equipment gave us a great sense of security, even though I asked myself: “why helmets?” We rehearsed our technique by repeatedly jumping of a chair. So that, when it was time to jump out of a plane, we would achieve this with grace and confidence. 3000 feet is just a little higher altitude than the height of a chair, I thought to myself but these guys are professionals; they know what they’re doing. And besides it seemed easy enough in practice, what difference would a few thousand feet make? Just a little more height and we did have a perfect parachute. The excitement was all around us. “Let’s go, we can do this. What are we waiting for?” No fear, just excitement, a beautiful blue sky, white fluffy clouds, a nice calm day with very little wind. It was a perfect day to fly, a perfect day to glide through the sky like a bird and experience the freedom. It was time to board the plane – the plane - a little Cessna 172 – with the inside stripped out of it. No seats, no door. I was getting a little worried. So here we were, four of us and the pilot in this tiny, tiny little plane. What could the 5 of us weigh? Three muscular guys and two amazingly fit women – and don’t forget the equipment, I’m not sure what it weighed, but it wasn’t light. I knew I shouldn’t have had that extra donut. The pilot circled the drop zone a couple of times and called for the first parachutist to get ready to jump. Kerry, my friend was first. The pilot gave the signal and Kerry walked onto the wing – and he jumped. I followed him with my eyes and he disappeared. I couldn’t see him anywhere. He was gone from my vision. Where did he go? Why did he disappear? At what speed was the plane moving? Oh my God, I’m next!! My heart was racing. My confidence was fading fast. My excitement changed instantly to fear. Fear – worse than any fear I had ever felt! My body was immobilized. I could not move any part of me. My mouth was dry, my heart was racing. I lost my voice. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t see and all I could hear was my friend Larry – screaming, “jump, jump, you’ll regret it, if you don’t, jump! I somehow found my voice and yelled back, “you jump, you do it!” So he did and so did my other friend Lucy. They too disappeared from my vision! The pilot circled the drop zone a few more times so that I could compose myself, and choose to jump, or not. So you ask yourself, was this a reasonable fear or not? Was it a false emotion a false reality? Maybe. It sure felt real to me. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Did I take the plunge? Did I face my fear? Did I choose freedom? What do you think? To fear or not to fear – your choice! To take action in spite of fear, also your choice! Taking action does equal freedom and power. Hypnotherapy is used as a tool to discover where all or our fears originated. Once we discover the origin of any particular fear, we are able to heal and become empowered.

October 2004 Issue Contents What
happens when the therapist goes for therapy? WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE THERAPIST GOES FOR THERAPY? It was time to, "walk the talk?" My days as a therapist are spend assisting other people, of all ages, to change their unsupportive habits. I found though, that I was not doing the same with some of my own unsupportive habits. The most obvious at the time was my habit of over eating and of eating the wrong foods at the wrong time. Over the last 5 years I had put on 40 lbs. I didn't feel very pretty, anymore. I didn't like the way I looked, I didn't like the way I felt and I didn't like feeling tired all of the time. I started blaming my age, my hormones and my slow metabolism. I needed help. After some inner reflection I decided that it was time to find out, to discover, why I was hanging on to this unwanted weight. It was now my turn to sit in the "Hypno-chair." I discovered, with the help of a very good friend of mine, (who is also a Hypnotherapist) that the emotional reason for my weight gain was loneliness, (What me, lonely?) My ego went into total denial, but my heart knew that my subconscious was correct. I was feeling very, very lonely and ate and ate to fill the gap. I ate for comfort and company. Once I recognized why I was eating the extra food it became easier to change the habit of overeating. I started to notice what, and when I was eating. I now choose to not eat after 7:00 PM. I now eat foods that support my slim, healthy and becoming more gorgeous by the minute body. (With a little chocolate once in a while.) I now choose to spend more quality time with my husband. I now choose to call friends and family for conversation and spend more time enjoying their company. I now choose to go for regular walks with my little girl, Alexandra. All these new choices are giving me a healthier perspective on life and a self image that I love. And somehow my loneliness has disappeared. What is loneliness, anyway? Please note: I got rid of 10 lbs. in the first month after my session and at this rate will be at my slim healthy weight of 130 lbs. by Christmas 2004. WHEN WE BELIEVE IN OURSELVES, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE: A while back a young man came to see me with his Mom. He believed that he wasn't very smart and had no confidence in himself. With hypnotherapy we discovered by going back to his memories of Gr. 1 that the teacher at that time continually told him that he was stupid. Until his session he believed that to be true. With hypnotherapy he changed that belief. He understood that it was someone else's perception of who he was - not who he really is. Below is an e-mail I received from his Mom. " Hi Rosa, I just wanted to let you know about the progress with my son. He has not had homework since he met with you. (His homework used to be, because of work he couldn't finish in class because he wasn't able to concentrate.) Since his session with you, he has told me on more than one occasion that he feels so different - so confident. It is so nice to hear him talk like that! Also, last night he found out he made the "A" team for hockey - well you can imagine how excited he is about that. He has never made the “A” team before and feels it has something to do with your visit. Thank you." Tammy How many of us live our lives from old beliefs that don't support us in a positive way?
