Hypnotherapy – Definition “We
can let circumstances rule us or we can take charge and rule our lives from
within”
Hypnotherapy is a two way process between the individual and the therapist. It is a natural, relaxed, state of mind that allows connection with the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is where all of one’s memories, habits and beliefs are stored. Connecting with the subconscious mind allows the therapist, with the individual’s cooperation and permission, to change unsupportive habits and programming. When using hypnotherapy, the physical body and the conscious mind are in a state of complete relaxation so that the subconscious mind is open and receptive to the new supportive suggestions that the individual desires. Because in this state it is possible to delve into past conditioning and discover possible reasons for present behavior and habits, change, learning and healing are easier to achieve. The conscious mind is that part of the mind that is aware of what’s going on, moment to moment. It is that part of the mind that controls the choices and decisions that are made. The conscious mind is the analytical and logical part of our mind that houses the ‘critical factor.’ The critical factor chooses what goes from the conscious mind to the subconscious mind. The critical factor is that part of the mind that keeps us safe, that keeps us doing what is familiar and comfortable. It protects us from perceived danger. Because change is scary, and considered to be a threat, the critical factor fights or refuses change. In order to facilitate and make change possible, the critical factor must be bypassed. With the use of hypnotherapy the critical factor is allowed to relax, the conscious mind keeps a lookout and the subconscious becomes receptive to the suggestions that the individual wants, so that positive changes are allowed to happen.
Hypnotism has been practiced in many forms since ancient times. Only
since the latter part of the of the 19th century has it become popular in
the treatment of various disorders such as weight issues, stress reduction
and other non-medical ailments. |
